Hi there! We’ve been busy bees over here getting a few projects done (or almost done) around the house!
There’s nothing like company coming to get your butt in gear! We’ve been working on the bathrooms slowly and had our friends coming last weekend, so it was time to finish painting and installing the bead board! I was still painting the day they were coming and we only had them help a little bit on Saturday to hang the hooks 🙂 What are friends for??
So, the boys’ (and guest) bathroom needed some serious love. It had a little bit of split personality going on with it’s baseball wallpaper border and the sea-shell tiles (which still remain, for now). We decided to tackle one of those for the time being by taking down the border. It left a little adhesive behind, so we scraped what we could then washed and sanded it down before we painted.
We painted the cabinets a while ago and love how they turned out!
One of the biggest changes in here so far has been adding the bead board all around. It really freshens and lightens the space up. Especially since there is basically no natural light in here. John did an awesome job installing, don’t you think??
To install the bead board, John cut a 4′ x 8′ piece in half and used construction adhesive and finish nails to secure it to the wall. Of course, the wall couldn’t just be 8′ long, it had to be 8′ 2″. John spliced in a little piece of bead board at the end. We then added the trim at the top.
We caulked the joints and then did one coat of primer (we used Kilz Premium) and then two coats of Benjamin Moore Simply White in satin (the same color as our kitchen cabinets).
My favorite thing (besides how beautiful is is looking) is the functionality of the four hooks we added! We had one towel bar in here before and that was so not working! I couldn’t even have a towel for each boy in the bathroom. Now I’ve got one for each boy and if we have guests, they can have a towel in the bathroom, too! Amazing.
Our new shower curtain and rug are from Target (Thanks, Shalyn and Uri!!) and I love the big pop of color they bring into the room!
We still have a bit to do in here:
- hang adorable pictures of the boys I took while they were in the bath
- hang sign I made over the toilet
- finish hanging bead board behind the toilet
- and while the toilet is out, tile the floor
- do something about the mirror
- replace light and faucet
Nonetheless, I think our littlest guests were super impressed by the bathroom. I’m sure of it. We always have so much fun when Phil and Cassie come to visit! And seeing the twins again was awesome! They grew so much since the last time we saw them. Alex was making little P laugh all weekend and H was just taking it all in (it was a lot of crazy for them to handle 🙂 )
We hit up our local Maple Syrup Festival and tasted the most amazing maple syrup ever in the history of ever. We hiked around Hueston Woods and learned all about how maple syrup is made. It was a great way to spend a beautiful day! Also, John all of a sudden loooooves pancakes just so he can eat syrup on a daily basis. It’s the strangest phenomenon.
Christian slept the whole time, but I think Alex, Henrik and Penelope learned a lot. I know I sure did! I’m so glad Phil and Cassie made the long trek down from Michigan to visit us in little ole’ Oxford! Next time though, I plan on beating everybody in Settlers of Catan. I’m serious this time.
