IKEA Easel Hack

Who doesn’t love a good IKEA hack?  And who doesn’t love this adorable little easel that you can snatch up  for 15 bucks?  We bought it for Alex the Christmas before last and he loves it!  He draws me a lot of smiley faces that look EXACTLY like me 🙂  He’s a keeper, that one.

Well, fast-forward to having two kiddos and Christian being able to pull himself up.  You can probably do that math.  I suppose when an easel is $15, it’s not going to be the sturdiest thing ever.  Whenever he pulled himself up on that little tray, it would tumble down on top of him.  And he’s pretty dramatic so he was traumatized.  Each and every time.  Until the next time…

So, I put my thinking cap on.  I obviously didn’t want to put the easel away because Alex loves coloring on it.  We never actually use the dry erase side because, a toddler with dry erase markers.  And wouldn’t you know, the beauty of IKEA everything is that it comes apart!  Because you put it together!  So, all I had to do was to take off the dry erase side.

Then I was debating between cutting off the legs or not.  I finally decided that I might want to make it back into an easel someday so I left them on.  I hung the easel upside down so I could create a little area to hang artwork, pictures, and what not.  I hung it using Command Strips (greatest. invention. ever.).

Right now I have some greeting cards that we got for our wedding that are super cute.  It is the artwork from an elementary class!

I added an S hook to hold a bucket of chalk that Alex can reach and Christian can’t (he’s still in the chalk-eating phase).

A super simple project that took me about 20 minutes!

Thanks so much for dropping by!  We are getting ready to tile the boys’ bathroom this week!  I can’t wait to share it with you all!

Have a great start to your week!
